We went to the meeting tonight. Great information and great turnout. Wow, on opening NCAA night, there was easily 225-250 people at the meeting!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear about Broad Shoulders, the new Green line station, and a host of other ideas. Loved the focus on Motor Row history and future.
The presenter from Central Station got an unexpected beatdown by residents, talking about trying to sneak a road in at 15th and 16th Street. You could tell this guy was not telling the truth.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the meeting, but I'm glad to hear there's such a strong interest in Motor Row.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused about your comment about the road at 15th/16th though. Creating a connection to Lake Shore Dr has been in the works for awhile now, and they've even had drawings of this plan in past emails from PDNA, so how was he trying to sneak a road in?
People voiced their concern, but really every park has a road next to it! Grant Park is between Michigan, Columbus and Roosevelt. Also, there is already the same traffic that would come through here to get where they need to from Roosevelt and or Cermak, this is just another access point that will be huge for the entire area. Also, not sure how anyone is complaining about this when the CN RAILROAD RUNS RIGHT THROUGH HERE, BUT YOU DONT HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS? I understand traffic will come off LSD, BUT THEIR PLANS are to implement a longer drive so it will slow traffic.
ReplyDeleteFirst, NIMBYs are saying no to the apartment towers on Clark and Polk, 9th and State, former Glashaus location, the British School, then NIMBYS are saying no to the DePaul Arena, now, NIMBYS are saying no to an LSD access point. If any developer/potential business partner/or any prospective human being wanting to invest/live in the South Loop they'll probably think twice with all these negativity. What are these people trying to do?! The last time I checked this area is part of the Central Area/Downtown Core which is density is king and development is required. To the NIMBYS please don't make this neighborhood a pseudo-rolling hill, green grass, countryside. Enough with the empty lots! Enough with the vacant buildings! Enough with the tumbleweeds! Bring on development!!!

ReplyDeleteso sad, this place will be dead for another 15 years. i hope you enjoy your current neighborhood the way it is now motor row residents, it's not going to change to your vision of a mini-Schaumburg filled only with "quirky but cute" cafes and northside type boutique shops (which will close due to lack of sustainable foot traffic). i looked in the the neighborhood a long time ago, and im thankful i didnt buy here. good riddance.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but the main section of the South Loop just started to get some activity with the addition of Scout, Square One, Waffles.. due to the economy of course things slowed down for Motor Row area, but with McCormick Place buying properties to turn into restaurants and their future Hotel Project + a new Green Line stop + countless investors who have already bought properties + new residents in THE LEX + owners in Motor Row + new residents moving into the Shelby (2300 S Michigan)+ 2100 S Indiana rentals + new streetscape + ickes down + liquor stores closed + Broad Shoulders Brewing + Teatro ZinZanni + Cheap Trick - yeah, good thing you didn't buy a high cieling, large, modern loft with city views that will have restaurants and bars at their fingertips and additional transportation options.
ReplyDelete^^^^^ 95% of the above didnt happen and probably wont happen.
ReplyDeleteThats the difference between rational people, and gullible people---- a BRAIN!
