Butterfield Kitchen Opens Inside Roosevelt CTA Stop

Image from Butterfield Kitchen's Facebook page
Back in January we posted about Butterfield Kitchen opening up in the long standing vacant retail space at the Roosevelt CTA stop.  Well as of last week, they are open!

We recently noticed that they were open and tried out their coffee (which was pretty good).  Like any new business they're ironing out some kinks, but the food we saw (mainly cookies and muffins) looked pretty good.

Has anyone tried them out?

Invest in more trains first. What's the point of buying a hot coffee when you can't sit and enjoy. It's way too crowded to keep one hand on the bar and one hand on your coffee or sandwich. This is the CTA, not METRA.

Anon @ 12:29 would complain about winning the lottery that they have no place to keep that big cardboard check.

This is a great move that improves the stop, looks more updated and you can grab a coffee before getting on the train. Plain & simple.

Mark - Yes, it looks more updated, but if it is more inconvenient to buy something and hop on a train where you are getting pushed around, it is not worth having.

12:29 and 2:30 anons are the reasons this blog is awful.

This is great for the neighborhood. Ignore all the negative posts. I'll definitely be checking them out.

Or, of course you could buy something after you get off the train, too.

"Eating, drinking, and radio playing are not allowed on CTA Trains." The sign is posted on EVERY TRAIN.

Went there and the concept and prices seemed great. They have a full kitchen as well. However, the service was beyond slow and they completely fell apart when asked to cook a meal instead if your basic pastry etc. such bad service it makes me nervous to go back. This was far worse than just ironing out a few kinks.

I hope they have their own security to keep the trash moving.

Sadly, previous anon, it does not appear that they do. I take the eL into the Loop from Roosevelt everyday; and this place opening has made the already-aweful loitering problem at that stop far worse. I also agree that the CTA opening a food and beverage depot at an eL station, when eating and drinking on all trains is prohibited, is rather disturbing.

The anon comments here are pretty short sighted for several reasons that aren't worth addressing.

I, like a lot of people, take the train from Roosevelt into the loop - where I work. This morning I got the veggie breakfast burrito, tossed it in my backpack, and it was still nice and warm when I arrived at my cube. It was also very good! Will for sure go back for the bfast sandwiches.
