Well we're not ready to officially say it's good (since we haven't given it a try yet), we're pretty excited about the potential. We've heard rumors and know the staff and owner has the experience to do well.
It looks like opening day was Friday the 15th. If anyone has given it a try please do comment and let us know whatcha think!
UPDATE - here are some shots and thoughts that Brianbobcat sent us:
Spanglish is officially open as of Friday the 15th. After YEARS of "coming soon", soon is finally now. I went there, and it's very bright, almost too bright though as it's a cold light, not very warm and inviting. I got a steak burrito, and while it came out quickly, the steak was a very fatty steak and needed a lot of chewing. They're comparable to Chipotle, so for those not willing or able to walk up to Jackson and Van Buren, this could be a good substitute. Their credit card machine wasn't working tonight, so bring cash. I will still give them more chances, as a coworker who also went said the chicken was good, but the beans so-so. Best of luck Spanglish!

Finally open!! It was really good. Their menu is pretty comparable to flaco's, although i would say it's more comprehensive, and they have several breakfast items! There were a good number of people there last night, and they seemed to be operating relatively smoothly. I am constantly at flaco's (sometimes 3 times a week). I plan to now alternate when I feel like a taco. Cheers!!(Hat tip: Villains Facebook, Brianbobcat, MJ, R!)
I emailed Sloopin late friday night with this info, and was surprised to not see it, nor the photos I passed along, posted. It was alright, but their credit card machine was down, and the steak burrito was very fatty and chewy. I will give them more chances though and wish them the best.
ReplyDeleteYAY....glorified taco bell, cant wait.
ReplyDeleteTried out Spanglish last evening with my wife. People were milling in off the street and perusing the menu. About the quality of the food, I'll say this: unexpectedly awesome. Having watched that storefront stay vacant for well over a year, I wasn't sure what to expect once I finally had their cuisine in front of my gaping maw.
ReplyDeleteGot a steak burrito and quesadilla, and there wasn't a drop of grease to be found. The steak melted in my mouth, and the accompanying horchata was delicious. Very friendly staff ultimately rounded out a tremendously pleasant experience. Definitely going back.
wow you ate a burrito AND a quesadilla? dude....
ReplyDeleteI hope this is a solid eating option for the neighborhood. I would prefer a real taqueria, but this will have to do. Good or bad, I will give this place my business out of support for the neighborhood and highly recommend it to anyone who looking for Mexican even before I go there.
ReplyDeletebetter or worse than Flacos?
ReplyDeleteway better than Flaco's and a bit cheaper also. No surprise they hit the ground running, the owner owns several taco joints downtown.
ReplyDeleteIs it fast food? What are the prices like? I was looking for a website or FB, but couldn't find any info. Maybe I'll go retro and actually check it out in person. Thx.
ReplyDeleteYes fast food, no table service. Reasonably priced, especially for the location. Several items in the $2-3 range. No website that I am aware of.
