Well this story on designslinger doesn't really touch on those controversies, but it does provide an interesting historical look at the area and history of Jones Commercial High School. Our favorite blurb from the post:
The school was located at the southern end of the city's central business district which was packed with train yards, smoke, and an ever expanding number of the 19th century's version of men-only, single room occupancy hotels. On November 20, 1885 a Chicago Tribune headlined declared, "The Jones School - Located in the Very Midst of the Vilest, Wickedest Part of the City." The article reported that the school was "surrounded by bed-flats, saloons, meat-markets, cigar stores and other undesirable places. Drunken men shouting at the top of their voices, swearing, cursing, and using ribald language as no innocent child ought to know."Seems like a good place to go to school if you ask us!
(Hat tip: Curbed Chicago!)
yawn. Talk about how many kids graduate and end up joining a gang49
ReplyDeleteFYI Jones Colleg Prep is Ranked fourth best city high school in Chicago by Chicago Magazine
ReplyDeleteI walk home from yoga every other day by JC prep. Those kids are awful.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago the police were all over the scene because of something that went on there. Its pretty scary around that area
FYI chicago public schools are some of the worst in the country, FYI
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the caliber of young people who walk in and out of that school on a daily basis, I'm saddened that this is one of the top schools in all of Chicago. No wonder we are losing all of our young families to the burbs.
ReplyDeleteyou can thank the chicago public school teachers for that.... far from leadership quality
ReplyDelete"from the looks of these kids, I can tell that they are not good enough"
ReplyDeletePlease tell us which exclusive school taught you how to judge people's intellect by their appearance...
"Chicago schools are some of the worst in the country, FYI"
Compared to what? NYC? LA?
"Chicago teachers are no good" ugh, what a sad statement!
Generalizations will get you nowhere, fast!
"It's pretty scary around that area." LOL.
ReplyDeleteSouth Loop residents = milquetoast. Don't like city stuff? Move to the burbs!
ReplyDeleteI lived right behind JC Prep in the Moser Building. It took well over a year just to build a pedway between buildings. Wonder how long the new facility will take. Needless to say, glad I got away from there.
ReplyDeleteThe new building is going up really fast.
