This morning was so disorganized going to vote in the 34th precinct. They were giving ballots out without even checking if people were registered to vote (and I'm not talking about checking ids). This has been reported to the election board and the news.
omg seriously come on get it together chicago! its not a hard concept. this morning I turned on my favorite fm station and they said someone from ohio threw pooh at a Romney voter? Who does that?
While waiting in line (inside OSM Church) a person wearing a Local something Union hat walked up to another person with a list and said these are the people to vote for. It was appalling.
It was a disorganized mess with lines criss-crossing, not having enough voter privacy envelopes (there were 3 stations open but no cover envelopes so people just stood there, how does that happen?) and I could have easily gotten in the line to get a ballot without checking in or signing that card (as someone already mentioned). They should give you something to prove you actually registered to vote after going through the first long line.
Also, simple signage identifying the different precinct lines would be pretty awesome.
The inefficiency is mind-blowing. At least we'll keep Chicago's reputation of being corrupt.
what do you expect, Unions are scum. The workers are fine but the higher ups and delgates are crooked as the letter S. Welcome to liberalism/democracy at its finest.
I agree, I was pretty amazed at the lack of efficiency and organization at the church today. There must be a reason, but I can't understand for the life of me why when you "check-in" you can't automatically get your ballot...wouldn't this make more sense and guarantee that people are indeed actually registered to vote? As a previous commenter posted, once you waited in the very long line to check-in, then you had to wait in another line to get your ballot, which included simply saying "yep" when they asked you if you checked-in. Most people to me seemed honest in that they had indeed checked-in, but I agree that the option to be shady was definitely there. The lack of signage to differentiate 33rd vs. 34th was also crazy. It also just seemed like people there in general didn't know how to problem-solve or manage people very well. Crazy pants!

ReplyDeleteMy polling place (not OSM, but River City) in the South Loop was excellent. No complaints here.
ReplyDeleteThat's the most democrats you'll see in a catholic church!! I jest & totally agree it was disorganized and disappointing.
