Roosevelt Collection Announces Variety of Retail Tenants

After years of speculation, tonight proved to be a big step forward for Roosevelt Collection and the Sloop.  At a private event at the ShowPlace ICON movie theaters, the management team at McCaffery Interests confirmed that 56% of the retail space had been leased to the following tenants:

A pretty impressive list if you ask us.

What else was learned tonight?  Well it's still going to be a little time before any of the store actually open.  According to the press release the target date for opening is Autumn 2013.   Also mentioned was another round of announcement in 4-5 months.  Obviously nothing was promised, but they seemed optimistic on this subject.

Our initial thoughts are job well done.  These are all quality stores and definitely a step in the right direction for the retail scene on Roosevelt.

Our second thought immediately goes to some of the other stores that were rumored but not announced.  Lululemon, Lettuce Entertain You restaurant and the elephant in the room, Apple Inc.  Crain's adds this about the latter retail establishment:
Mr. McCaffery added that he is not currently in talks with Apple, saying discussions that the technology company would open a retail location in Roosevelt Collection had always been speculative.
Strange about the Apple thing.  Seems like a couple people jumped the gun earlier this year.  The other strange piece of news is the lack of a commitment from YardHouse.  Back in late August a reader tipped us to the locations site of YardHouse's website and sure enough it said "opening in 2013 at Roosevelt Collection".  That was shortly removed and apparently isn't happening for the time being.  Strange.

So what do you think?  Is this what you expected?

Progress is progress.  Kudos to McCaffery Interests and the Roosevelt Collection team!

Great update! I'm happy about the plans but I also would have liked some stores like over at North Avenue - Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Victoria's Secret, etc. because the nearest locations of those stores are actually quite far from the Sloop (at the other end of Michigan).

Lululemon would have been great! So sad to hear it is not coming here. Guess we will have to keep trekking up to Southport on the weekends. Also, too bad about Apple. Guess we will have to keep trekking to North & Clyborne on the weekends. Is it odd that the two stores most of us were looking forward to the most aren't on the list?

75 percent leased by Nov 1st? Not so much. Nothing opening until Autum 2013? WHY?? Makes zero sense. Very fishy.

The only way more businesses are going to move to the Sloop and succeed is if more people are living in Sloop. There needs to be more residential construction in the area, particularly high rises. No, this will not make traffic considerably worse because when you're tower was trying to be built, the older tower next to you said the same thing. If you don't want to live in a dense, urban area, feel free to move to Plainfield.

Anon 6:48am - I agree with you more rental and even boutique mid-rise or even single-family modern home construction needs to be built (especially on the open land south of roosevelt), but I still think the MAIN ISSUE is that many South Loopers are home bodies.. they go to work, come home eat dinner in front of the tv, if they have kids forget about it. We need students, young adults, married, married with kids to make an effort to get out once a week during the weekdays to places all over the South Loop.

It does sounds fishy when it comes to Apple and Lululemon. Lululemon planned on coming to Block 37 and signed a least because they were told Apple store was coming. Apple stated they were just looking at spaces in the the building. The fall-out of ownership and recession came in. Block 37 and Lululemon had to go to court so Lululemon can get out of their lease. Hopefully, the yoga store own by Gap (it starts with an A) can lease space in Roosevelt Collection and/or Block 37.

No Anthropologie? This is such a disappointing roster. As is the news that NONE will open before next "autum."

The only "impressive" tenant on this list is Fleet Feet. This "long anticipated" announcement makes the decision to look for a new apartment in another neighborhood when my lease expires that much easier. Especially since we all know that "Autumn 2013" could mean "not really sure when" we are getting any of these tenants.

Every other McCaffery property contains at least one (usually more) of the following stores: Gap, Banana Republic, J Crew, Victorias Secret. The fact that NONE of these are opening at RC speaks volumes to the sloop's demographics.

Anon 804 and 812 you are the same person and might not even live in the South Loop, but regardless, I have not been to the Gap, JCrew or Banana Republic since I was 21 years old.. you think these are good stores? Those stores are for folks that do not know how to really dress and don't know where to go. Every outfit in their stores are PINNED BACK.

It is never going to be Mag Mile/Rush Street - Top End shopping which you can't afford (speaking of demographics), but the South Loop will eventually be a combo of Bucktown - which has some boutique stores and North Ave - where you have solid stores + big box down the street.

Anyway, for the comment about looking for another lease.. you don't belong in the city if all you are concerned about are things 5 feet in front of you. This is a great list to start.

Ummmm, H&M and ROC are for teenagers. J Crew and Banana serve a young professionals. Know what you are talking about before you post, Anon 911.

Have fun at Express, JCrew, Old Navy (young adult-not professional), but when you decide to get your shit together try Haberdash, Zara, AllSaints, Macy's, Nordstrom and when you get a real "professional" job, fly to NY, Toronto and London. You are the same guy who thinks they can put on any pair of jeans and a oversized suit jacket and think it looks good. ROC is a niche store that provides to folks in the age group of 20-30 (teenagers may window shop and buy a t-shirt, but it is really for those that don't have PROFESSIONAL jobs, but have money to burn on the weekends). H&M actually has great knockoff stuff for those that can't afford higher-end (yes they also have stuff for teenagers), but H&M should be used for certain pieces to your overall outfit. Think shirt inside a euro cut suit. JCrew, etc are for those that think they are dressing nice, but really just blending into the same ol' crowd. Have fun with your oversized v-neck sweater with dress shirt popping out of the collar for your xmas holiday - oh, that is exactly what you wear to work as well.. I would HATE to see you at a club or nice restaurant in Chicago.

Anon 512: chill out, son! Go pimp yourself out in some $10 H&M suits, fill your suitcase with some axe body spray from Utla beauty supply, and catch the red eye on Southwest out of Midway for a weekend at the Jersey Shore.

I'm a female attorney, and I shop at JCrew and Banana Republic for work clothes all the time (as do most all of my colleagues). Both of those shops would have ideally served the young professional population the sloop is trying to attract. H&M and ROC? Not so much.

What happened to Sports Authority? Why H&M? I can walk to the H&M on state street in less than 10 minutes from my RC condo.

1:19 - good point, but the South Loop is actually missing that demographic that will keep restaurants and bars busy.. I hate to say it, but we actually need more River North type folks. We have alot of students and married folks, but we need more Single people. I have seen more and more, but no where close to what we need to sustain our businesses. Think about it this way, we have zero clubs and not that any of us are looking for real clubs in the area, but we do need some high-energy type places. Go check out Studio Paris, Hubbard Inn, EPIC, HUB51- they are restaurants FIRST, but continue to make ridiculous amount of cash well into the night as they also have DJ's upstairs or downstairs. I thought the Scout was going to be like that, but it just has not turned into that after midnight. Scout still buzzes, but not like these other places. We need to attract this demographic that would shop at ROC, H&M, ETC..

Looks like Southport Corridor in Lakeview just landed The Gap and Lululemon that many of us were hoping for at the Roosevelt Collection. Ahhhh, the rich get richer. And we get an H&M.

Lululemon has been been open on SOuthport for months and the Gap was probably just moved from the one that closed in Boystown

The Sun-Times just recently ran a story about the Roosevelt Collection, looks like they're aiming for an opening this spring. http://www.suntimes.com/business/18947693-420/hm-store-joins-roosevelt-collection-shopping-center.html
