Locomobile Lofts up for 2011 Refurbishment of the Year
Locomobile Lofts, located in Chicago’s Historic Motor Row on S. Michigan Avenue, is in the running for the 2011 Refurbishment of the Year award presented by ArchDaily.com—the world’s most visited architecture site.
STUDIO IDE..., a four-person Chicago-based architecture firm, is the creative genius behind the building's innovative design. They are up against some stiff competition (222 buildings are currently nominated) and would appreciate your support.
"I'm sure with the power of Sloopin behind us, we cant fail," says STUDIO IDE...'s Joe Signorelli.
Only five buildings will make it to the final round! Help represent your neighborhood and vote for Locomobile Lofts. Voting closes Tuesday, February 21.

I am obviously biased, since I live here, but I wanted to take time to highlight Studio Ide's gorgeous and creative redesign that has totally transformed the experience of entering into and walking through our building interior. If any other condo buildings are interested in a fresh new look that builds upon the history and existing beauty of your space, you cannot go wrong by putting yourselves in Studio Ide's hands. We loved their work so much that we hired them to do a redesign in our unit!
This should be nominated for the most inflated prices in Chicago. You guys who bought should pay pioneer prices considering you still live in a ROUGH area. Wish you the best and hope this does something. I for one would rather live near Gary.
Paint and carpet did nothing to fix the multitude of mechanical inadequacies, crumbling foundation which led to flooded 1st floor units more than once, improperly installed windows that cause water damage inside due to condensation and freezing, hundreds of thousands in yet to be completed code violation repairs, over a million in stone work already done to keep people from getting hit by failing facade, it goes on and on. The developer should be thrown in jail and considering this building for any type of award is an absolute joke!!! - Unit Owner at 2000 Michigan
I also live in this building and can tell you the developer got away with murder. Its a crummy neighborhood and the building itself is in shambles. We are trying to round our troups together and get the hell outta here.
cannot figure out why anyone would want to live in this gang ridden cespool
Give it another 20 years or so and the neighborhood may be bareable ....
Sadly by then the rehab will need a new rehab again ...
RUN don't walk from that stretch ... With the new alderman this will become more like bronzeville and less like printers row ....
