Burger Point Has Some Fans

A reader writes:

Hey Sloopin-

Love the blog....my fiance and I think you should have a post about Burger Point. We have been there 4 times since it has been open and have been impressed each time. Great wings, chili, fries, and of course burgers. I'm on a crusade to determine which burger is my favorite and thus far it's hard to say. I just had the Ash Man and it tastes just like In and Out. The service has also been phenomenal. My fiance is gluten-free and they have been great in dealing with that. We've also enjoyed that it is BYOB as well.

Keep up
the great work!

Seems like they're not the only person to enjoy the new burger joint in the Sloop. According to Yelp it's at 4 stars.

I am a huge fan of BP but they NEED TO OFFER SOME TYPE OF DEAL FOR 2 that is $18-20 (offer it for regular burgers, fries and one drink - something like that). At least for Monday through Thursday. Right now it costs about 26 bux for two. I am not a fan of the Friday Fish Fry at Weather Mark, but LOVE THE BURGER there and usually go on Mondays for the 6 dollar deal.

Went there once and food was good but for nine or ten dollars ala cart is tough to justify with so many other options in the hood. fourteen dollars for a burger and fries is tough.

if you want a "burger and fries" then goto weather mark and have them griddle you up a frozen pattie on a poppyseed bun...

Burger Point , if you havnt already noticed, is in the business of providing fresh ingredients of high end quality. They are almost of gourmet class..

That cost $$$

We had Burger Point last night. The burgers were good as was evident by our empty plates. We'll be back and would love a deal either on a certain night or for 2 as suggested by Allen.

We order carry-out from there once a week. My favorite is the New American Classic. My husband has never had a burger he liked better than the way his mom made them, until Burger Point! Has anyone had the wings? I agree with Allen - they need some deal for 2 for us frequent flyers ...

I agree they are gourmet burgers, but then offer an environment that lives up to that. We order at the counter, then have to LISTEN for our names over the music and we usually are bumping tables (glad the place is busy), the lighting does not invite you to stay which is understood for turning over tables, but it really could have a bit more of an intimate feel like all of the top burger spots up North. I am a fan of HOUSE music, so I wish it was a bit more inviting and they brought the food out to you.. since you are waiting for 10-15 minutes and keep turning your head to see if they called out your name. Maybe a soft lit LED screen with your name would work and I would not mind picking up the food.

Big old certified 100% grass fed beef burger with... 5 Yr Aged Cheddar, avocado, smoked bacon, fried egg, Bourbon Glazed Shrooms, and Roasted Chili Peppers. Costs a bit more but its grass-fed and never frozen - super fresh!

This is my newest favorite-est thing in the south loop with Flo & Santos' buffalo pork wings a close second.

BP is awesome. It has exceeded my expectations. The burgers are great and the wings are also really good. The 24 wing price is actually a good deal. I spoke with the man at the register (assuming hes the manager or owner) and he said they plan on offering online ordering and delivery in about 2 months.

Can't wait for delivery!!!

"Steven". Phrases like "grass fed" and " free range" have very subjective standards and have many times simply been used for marketing purposes. People like you scream gourmet because of that and specialty cheese and pay 15$ for a hamburger and fries. At that price point you could get one hell of a burger at the bar at firehouse and enjoy their atmosphere instead of sitting in a fast food restaurant. For such a know it all I am surprised you are so gullible to marketing phrases. I actually do think the product is food but obnoxiously overpriced.

Gee "thanks" "anon" for your in depth "input" on the "matter"

I "think" i'll not "listen" to you for "fear of being wrong"

Where do some of you get your facts from? Specailty burgers are $8.25 not $15 or 2 for "26 bux". Even if you add fries and a drink the total is only $11. If you want nuked burgers there is a BK down the street for about $8 you'll get a dbl cheeseburger fries and drink. I'll pay the extra $3 for quality made to order and for a local business.

I am the owner of The Burger Point and I read all the feedback from everyone in any form we can. I appreciate all the comments and we DEFINITELY appreciate everyone that supports us on a REGULAR basis because the South Loop is the best place in the city IMO (I am also a resident).
To address a few comments....
1. Our slogans like 100% grass fed beef and 5 Year aged cheddar are NOT marketing tactics (in fact we have not done any marketing other than inside the restaurant). It is 100% true and I am open and will gladly take on anyone who challanges anything that we say to not be true. I am not here to fool my customers. In fact we heavily promote where we get our meat inside the restaurant (feel free to grab a brochure). Our meat is never frozen and we grind it fresh ourselves several times a day, so I know exactly what my meat mixture is all the time (I don't know any burger specific restaurant that can make that claim). Our turkey and chicken burgers (like the beef) are all free range with no hormones or antibiotics.
2. Price. We are on the LOW end of price for the burger we offer. We are not a chain, not a fast food burger place, and not a hodgepodge diner style restaurant. We are our own unique spot that focuses on made from scratch ingredients and quality. If you venture out to any good burger place you will pay a minumum of $24 for 2 people (2 combo specialty burgers w/fries and drink are $24.42 (unless you order sweet potato fries which are a $1 extra). We are actually priced on the same level (if not cheaper) then Five Guys but we are giving you, IMO, DMK or Kuma level burger without traveling or waiting in line. Plus I do not know of any high end burger place that provides the options and combinations to make your own burger like we do. Because of the quality ingredients we use and the labor it takes to make everything from scratch we unfortanutely do not have built in "extra" profit to have specials. Our margins are extremely low but I didn't open The Burger Point to make a ton of money, I opened it because I felt the neighborhood needed it and I wanted to offer the best quality food I could I get my hands on to the residents. Bars can more easily offer "specials" because they bank on the fact you are going to also buy a mixed drink or a beer(s) and that is where their true profit is.
3. We try to explain our concept and our passion to everyone that comes in, we are not a 100% but as long as we are human and have emotions no one will ever be. We try to make sure everyone enjoys their time at TBP. We wanted a bright open dining room/kitchen to show our cleanliness and so you can actually see your food being made to order.
4. I am not here to knock any other restaurant or try to take business away from them. I feel they do their thing and we do ours so the people can decide. I support the other business as they support us, I still feel the South Loop has plenty of room for more restaurants and food options and I welcome that into the SLOOP!!!

Again, THANK YOU ALL so much for you support and patronage....I know my expectations have been exceeded and I hope that we have done the same.... Keep in mind we are OPEN New Years Day!!!

I hear the greatest thing about Buger Point is that they have a local cook. I was told that is really important. I guess the south loop has the best buger cooks this side of Memphis.
