Cheap Trick, the Rockford band behind the ’70s hits “Dream Police” and “I Want You to Want Me,” announced Wednesday that it will “curate” a museum and music venue in a former Buick dealership at 2245 S. Michigan in the emerging Record Row-Motor Row district. This isn't really new news, but it sounds like it's actually happening. Anyway here is something new we didn't know about:
Band manager David Frey said in a statement that Cheap Trick Chicago will be “a one-of-a-kind eatery, unique musical instrument museum, radio station, and performance space as well as rooftop and outdoor and event space in the future Music Row in Chicago.”
Fioretti said a blues band is interested in opening a similar venue “within a couple blocks” of Cheap Trick Chicago. Fioretti anticipates an announcement on that venue by early 2012.
Landmark America is coordinating efforts in the district with Fioretti and Cheap Trick.
Headquartered in Chicago, Landmark America has completed more than 80 developments in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, New York and Mississippi. Known for
rehabilitating historic buildings, Landmark America worked on the 1999 rehab of
Lakeside Center, the former R.R. Donnelley printing center in Chicago.
Hopefully this all happens. Should be fun to see how this progresses. Seems like there are a ton of things going on down by Cermak (new Green line stop, Record Row, Real Estate Development).

I Just moved in to the Wabash Club townhomes and I'm loving the news that the area is being developed. It was a hard for me to move out of the Little Italy area (6 years), but I needed more space and the Motor Row area had the potential to be something nice. Hopefully things will continue to move forward!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agreed - the Cermak are is booming like no other area of the sloop, not to mention Chicago.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's possible to buy at Lexington Park, or at what price, but it seems that there is opportunity in the area.
There is also an abandonded loft building at the SW corner of Indiana and 21st, wondering if that will get cleaned up once the new commercial development starts coming to fruition.
oh yeah its booming! Just the other day I saw FIVE bums fighting over a chicken wing bone in the trash....you usually only see two.
ReplyDelete^^^ LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA so true, what a crummy part of town. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteJosh...get a life.
This is great news! I heard there are plans for about 3 other venues that will have rooftop seating as well on that strip. Also, with the plans to widen the sidewalks to have patio seating this will be a great entertainment district. I think a Sports Bar and Breakfast joint are needed badly over there as well.
ReplyDeleteAll right Hamilton! Way to go Damone!
ReplyDeleteOH GOD DONT YOU DARE PUT A SPORTS BAR THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe crusty bitches on sloopin will be up in arms crying/whining about chest bumping and too much noise
Just walked past the space this morning and there is already a sign for Landmark America on the door.
ReplyDeletelol so true ^^^
ReplyDeletethis is great news. i always imagined that stretch of mich ave south of cermak as a great place to have resturants, shops, and yes--bars. I wish there were some renderings to give us a visual. The storefronts alone are incred.
ReplyDeleteNow they just need to demolish those section 8 housing units just past Cullerton.
ReplyDelete...and give all the NIMBY's a swift kick in the junk
ReplyDeleteif we could get an new traffic light over here we would be kicking some serious ass in the south loop. Oh yeh, and another burger point to (as long as they have a local cook).
ReplyDeleteThese venues need to OPEN fast! Just got off the bus and there are hundreds of people leaving MCCormick - and of course again asking me where to go.
ReplyDeleteDo anyone know if any of these places will have a "local cook"? That is important.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Anon 5:58, next years show schedule is the busies ever, and with the g8 summit poised to be here in May.
ReplyDeleteIt will be 10 years before any of those ideas become reality
