Back in May, we received an email, with floor plans, for a new building that would replace the current structure. We haven't heard much about that until we recently read a note in our comment section about a Five Guys coming to the space (via Everyblock.com). We didn't think much about it, but recently we saw construction fencing put up around the building.
We're not sure if a Five Guy's, which is a famous burger restaurant, is coming to this space, but it seems like something is happening here.
Although we will miss the street art canvas, we welcome any new improvements to this area.

Ben over at Chicago Journal and Steve over at SL Connection tried to contact 5 guys and I believe they said No they were not moving into this space.
Five Guys are not moving into the space. This is going to be an extension of the scout as a dance club so all of the douchey frat guys can continue to dance to techno once the scout closes for the night.
is there a way you can post a higher resolution image of that floor plan? i think it might have some hints about what it is,
Five Guys is the most overrated burger joint around, let's keep the street art around until something more original comes about.
"...let's keep the street art around until something more original comes about."
Sigh. Nothing against street art, but this attitude makes me sad. I was telling the wife the other day when we noticed the scaffolding, even if all they were doing was a better job of boarding the place up, it would still be a big improvement.
I doubt a burger restaurant would want to move into this space. Looks like it would be a massive undertaking to renovate the place as it is so horribly dilapidated.
ANYTHING including a dry cleaner, day care or physical therapist would be better than this eyesore! I like 5 Guys fries, but i think the burgers are just so-so.
I hope something/anything opens at this spot soon. We really need to take advantage of the momentum caused by TJ's as a catalyst to turning this entire corner around. Maybe this will cause Yang's and Bongo Room to actually plant some plants/flowers/anything in the planters along Roosevelt just east of the eL entrance. As of now, the two giant planters are used as garbage dumps by the "usual suspects" lined up waiting for the #12 bus. Such an eyesore.
A restaurant cafe is coming into this spot.
