Last fall Winestyles (1240 S. Michigan) closed despite being a popular and busy South Loop business. Last week a reader perceptively noticed a new sign appear in the window at the now vacant retail space:
So the question remains...is Winestyles re-opening in their old space? Or is a new business opening here? On another retail note, a reader sent us a picture of a sign at 1305 S. Michigan:
We're just guessing here, but it appears that a sports/running equipment store might be opening up shop on South Michigan. Their mail is getting delivered down the street at Doctor's Choice, but we're unsure whether or not they're associated.Anyway, we had a reader who really wanted a running store in the neighborhood and maybe they're getting their wish.

Looks like Athletic Edge will be another physical therapy location. "Athletic Edge Physical Therapy LLC" lists its principal office as 1319 S. Michigan with the Secretary of State.
Would be a very poor business decision for Wine Styles to re-open at that location considering TJ's is soon to open. TJ's wine prices blow wine styles out of the water. For that reason alone, I highly doubt that it is wine styles "coming back" at that spot.
Just what the South Loop needs another physical therapy office... What next, Another daycare center?
maybe another dry cleaner... if we're lucky!
As long as the physical therapy offices, daycares and dry cleaners are paying rent and occupying space- I'll take them over an empty store front!
I heard its going to be a Subway/ physical therapy supply store/daycare combo.
Maybe it could be another branch of Donna's. insert chuckle....
Seriously, I do hope that Winestyles makes a comeback. I'm all about businesses that know what the hell they are doing.
If WineStyles knew what they were doing they'd still be there. They didn't close for lack of customers.
The problem with WineStyles was they had a crappy selection of wine. They had a couple of decent bottles, but also a bunch of junk. This is probably more of an issue with the franchise than this particular locations owner though. I thought the owner (I think her name was Tracy) did a good job of having events and getting people in the store, but people weren’t buying much outside the bottle they might split with somebody at an event.
I think for a wine store to be successful, it needs to cater to wine drinks and not people that like the idea of occasionally have a bottle of wine. It is much better to have people come in and buy wine by the case than the occasional bottle when you have a live musician there. Also, just because you cater to wine drinkers doesn’t mean that you can’t be approachable to those that don’t know much about wine.
I want South Loop Wine Cellar back!!! :(
