Urban Pantry's Ambitious Online Plans

In case you missed a post we did a couple of weeks ago about a new place called urban pantry opening up in Printer's Row area. Anyway, the people behind it found our post and gave a little more background about their store and concept:

Here at Urban Pantry, we offer a unique grocery shopping experience which sets us apart from other corner grocery stores. We have revamped the corner grocery store business model to create a modern and premier pantry that will suit your urban lifestyle. Here you will find fresh breads and pastries baked in local bakeries, vegetables and fruits grown in local farms along with other grocery essentials.

You can start your morning with a cup of freshly brewed coffee or a cappuccino from South Loop's first Caribou Coffee. You can even end it with a glass of wine selected from our wine cellar. In addition to our long open hours, we also provide the option of online ordering with home delivery and curbside pick-up. The advantage of being a local grocer means you will receive your essentials on the same day and at a time when you are home, not when we have an open slot!

In addition to this online portal, we have launched a unique GBT (Grocery by Text) feature where you can order your groceries by text. With such unique services, we hope that you will find us as a superior alternative to other markets in the Solo. We look forward to becoming an integral part of your daily life!

Sounds interesting to us and we assume it's something peeps in the Printer's Row area are going to love. Although we're a little skeptical about some of the online features, it sounds great although rather ambitious to us. If they can pull it off more power to them.

Best of luck to Urban Pantry and welcome to the Sloop!

Guess they don't count the actually Caribou Coffee at 9th/Wabash, that has been there for like 10 years as the "first" in the South Loop?

9th and Wabash is not in the South Loop neighborhood.

Oh the south loop boundary discussion... here we go again...

Regardless, I am so very excited for Urban Pantry to open!

my mommy said i am not supposed to leave the south loop but mommy said it was ok to go to caribou coffee to get her black juice in the morning. i am so confused about where i am allowed to go and not go now. is mommy a liar?

no seriously my guess is that they get the coffee from that caribou coffee.

if this place lives up to its expectations it should do very well.

Do you mean the one on 8th and Wabash, I live on 8th and there is a Caribou in my building on the corner? Also since when is 9th and Wabash not South Loop? I have heard some debates about the border being south of Roosevelt...

The bakery stuff sounds good to me!

Yes, I'm sorry, I meant 8th/Wabash. South of Congress, east of the River. In a neighborhood called the SOUTH LOOP.

"superior alternative to other markets in the Solo"

In the "Solo"? Really? Solo?

Doesn't sound like the owner has spent much time in the South Loop. I mean "SoLo" :P

Thank you once again for all your comments. We are even more excited about our concept now!

Yes, you are correct. I do not live the in South Loop. However, I will be moving into the neighborhood as we get closer to the opening of the store! I look forward to enjoying everything South Loop has to offer and use my personal experiences to make Urban Pantry even more community-friendly.

We have hired a web designing company to create a website for us and the key feature we have requested is the online shopping feature. We are very confident that it will be a seamless experience as well as the unique Grocery By Text (GBT) feature.

We have new development in regards to Caribou Coffee. There is a high probability of us getting a "Proudly Brew" contract. Let us get back to you after consulting with our Caribou rep!

We are thrilled that you liked our bakery idea. We are thinking of going further North near Lincoln Park/Logan Square/Bucktown area to bring pastries along with seeking a bakery in the South Loop. That way, you won’t have to go far from South Loop to enjoy delicious pastries from the North Side. We are in talk with a few bakeries but we are certainly open for suggestions!

Our email address is urbanpantrychicago@gmail.com so feel free to email us with any questions, comments, or concerns. You can also "like" us on Facebook by searching UrbanPantryChicago.
We look forward to becoming your neighborhood pantry!
