Since we don't have the traditional July 3rd fireworks in Chicago, we thought we would dig through some old Chicago Fireworks videos on Youtube to ensure you had a chance to see some fireworks:
Too bad the violent crime committed by gang-bangers at the Taste and the fireworks over the past few years caused the city to cancel one of our greatest traditions. So sad.
Well, at least the city also forced WGCI to cancel its sponsorship of a "night at the taste" as well. In return: no shootings at this year's festival. Coincidence? I think not!
Agreed. I also find it ironic that the story in today's sun-times citing a significant drop in crime cites comments/stats from the owner of Robinson's Ribs about how he lost $$ on this year's event. Not a coincidence at all!
The fireworks were cancelled because of budgetary issues...
BTW, Venitian Night was cancelled because too many North Suburban gang bangers were causing trouble around the event. They could be seen lining up along the lakeshore with their polo collars "popped" taunting a small group of kids with greasy hair while they were returning to their southside house.
The fireworks themselves are not too expensive (which is why Navy Pier can afford to put on 2 shows per week) - the fireworks were cancelled because security was way too expensive. This is a direct result of the gang bangers who have terrorized the Taste on July 3rd and on WGCI night the past two years. This is why the July 3rd shows were cancelled. If you don't believe this, then I'm sure you also think North Ave beach was closed on Memorial Day because of heat, and not because of the throngs of gang-bangers that invaded that day.
Anyone watching the 10 PM broadcast of any one of the three local news stations this evening (Monday) may have already seen this; however, if not, please be warned that Chicago Police have issued a strong arm robbery warning for the South Loop after 4 separate incidents in broad daylight today in the vicinity of 16th and Michigan, right in the heart of the Sloop. These brazen criminals attacked, mugged, and robbed people in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!
If Sloopin can follow-up with a thread about these highly-reported incidents, providing any description of the suspects available, it would be greatly appreciated!
I just sent sloop in an email about the muggings this afternoon. I believe he's posting soon. Several buildings in my immediate neighborhood have been broken into in the last2 months. My building and another within the last 2 weeks!
Only a matter of time before this crime wave becomes more and more dangerous. Wait until Lexington fills up with even more section 8 residents. Can't wait for that Brewery to open in the heart of the mugging zone!

How is that ironic?
