In Search of a Pick-up Soccer Game

We've posted about recreational sports in the past, but recently received another email from a reader in search of a soccer game:

I’d love if there was a post-work pickup soccer or basketball game option in the South Loop. Soccer especially. Meetup.com is mostly spam, and something like this would bond the community I think. Plus, I have at least 3 friends who would regularly join in. Summertime is ideal for this.

Although we don't know of anything off the top of our head, we have noticed that their seems to be regular pick-up soccer games on the weekend just north of the Agora statues (so essentially at 11th and Michigan). Does anyone know if these are organized or are they truly impromptu?

  1. I'm not sure about those weekend games, but I'd be up for a regular game if you're gonna get one going!

  5. I'm up for a small sided pick-up game of soccer once the weather breaks. I do see games occasionally at Michigan and 11th but I'm not sure if they are organized. If anyone knows please post.

  6. The field at 18th and Wentworth could be a good venue since it's rarely used but the grass is always in good condition.

  8. All for a pick-up game locally. I would add that
if you are looking for more frequent and organized opportunities, go check out the Adult Soccer leagues at the Chicago Indoor Sports facility at 39th and Ashland. www.chicagoindoorsports.com

They have FOUR hockey rink sized fields - huge place.

The Near South Soccer league for kids plays their winter league games down there before the spring outdoor leagues open up at Ping Tom and Dunbar parks.

Chicago Indoor sports has a ton of leagues and skill levels for adults going late into the night. I wish that facility was located in the South Loop or Near South side. Still it is not hard to get to - zip down Archer (at state) to Ashland south, and you can be down there in 10 minutes.

  9. The games aren't organized. We used to have a regular Monday night game but a lot of people have moved away.

  10. As a member of the south side soccer community I am so ashamed and saddened about the slaying of the African soccer player by another one of our neighbors. Once again, a HUGE black-eye for the south side is plastered all over the city. These kids had to be transplanted out of our south side war zone and relocated to the north shore. Wake up neighbors!! As the warm killing months are upon us, please recall that these criminals are only a 5 minute red line ride from the Roosevelt stop.
