SOUTH LOOP—Tune in to Cooking Channel's Unique Eats Sunday night to catch Eleven City Diner on their special "deli" episode. If you miss it Sunday night, it'll re-run throughout April. [EaterWire]
Very cool. I know people on this site complain (as they should) about options in the neighborhood, but there some terrific spots here. We are super lucky to have about 4 different types of areas in the South Loop (Printers Row, Central South Loop, Museum Campus & Motor Row Historic District). The one thing that it takes is for people in the South Loop to start getting out after 8pm to support the types of places we want. Even if you eat dinner at home, grab the wife/husband/(kids), go for a walk and get a drink/dessert/ice cream at any of our local restaurants at the very least.
Ate here twice, rude service, average food and high prices. Very negative experience over all. I second Anonymous 9:30am. A real dinner would be welcome, not 11 city. I do give them credit for the interior design however. Maybe the rents too high thus the ridiculous prices.
Just to offset the negativity, in my personal experience having been to Eleven City maybe a half dozen times, its not that bad. I have never had bad or rude service. It definitely is pricey, and the food isn't awesome, but it is solid in my opinion. One exception being the Mexican scramble which is awesome (and super bad for you). I will keep going there until I start experiencing these things everyone is talking about.
Yep, I ate here too. It's been said before, but I have to agree - rude service, blah food and high prices. Haven't been back since. Anonymous 9:30am is right on.
Been there a couple of times before having a child. Food overpriced and not that good but figured it had to improve at some point. Tried going back when I had a child and the owner treated me like I was putting him out by asking for a high chair. I left after 3 or 4 other parties were sat before me. I inquired about being skipped and was told something about those tables werent fit for a child? Wtf? I high chair takes up the same amount of room as a regular chair. The guy is a crumb and a child hater. I look forward to that place going out of business. You Can'tserve overpriced crappy food with poor service and make it forever.
i agree with parts of all. the space is cool. but the prices and food are overrated. also, the four or so times i've been there the service has been less than desired. in theory, Eleven City is a home run. too bad it's execution is a swing and a miss.
Is the cooking channel doing a special on "arrogant restaurant owners with a god-complex"?
The owner of this place killed any desire I have to go back; he treats the people standing in line (yes, especially those with kids) like dirt. Food is decent. Service is probably the worst I have had at a place in the sloop.
I like the idea of the diner and the space is fantastic but my wife and I refuse to go there anymore after watching how the owner treats his customers. It's a shame the guy is such a prick.
Anonoymis 8:57is so right on. I had a similar experience when I brought my young nephew to this place. With so many families moving into the sloop u would think they would expect this.
Wow, I didnt think Id need to defend this place. I've been there well over a dozen times. It's a great neighborhood diner that isn't trying to be something it's not. It's a local, low key place to hang out and it's always packed on sundays and I'm glad we have it.
I love the food. But I wish the owner (Brad?) was a nicer guy. He doesn't seem like a "fun" jerk like from the delis I grew up with. He's an actual as*shole it seems, at least from watching him on numerous occasions interact with customers. But the food is, I have to say, delish. And great to see the SLOOP on national TV!
Wow...these comments are not at all what I expected. My boyfriend and I have been to Eleven City at least 10 or 15 times now, and while yes, it is somewhat overpriced, we really like it. The reuben and the patty melt never disappoint. And the couple of times we met Brad, he was super friendly. Granted, we don't have kids, and that seems to be the big complaint here, but he has stopped by and chatted with us about the goings on in the neighborhood, made sure we're satisfied with the food, etc. I definitely don't plan to stop frequenting this place anytime soon.
I also, didn't like how my husband and I were treated with our young son, so we stopped going to Eleven. The food is okay, but nothing special. I really wish the owner was more business savy and made some attempt to be kinder to his customers. Like many other residents in the South Loop I want businesses to succeed.

The prices are higher because the rent and taxes are high, stop voting for liberal leadership.

As the above posts testify, Eleven City Dinner is shoite, and the management are terrible.
