Looks like there is some wide ranging guesses about when Trade Joe's will be opening (based on our latest Sloopin poll), but one things is for certain...it is opening eventually.
We recently received an email from a reader who notified us that the Chicago (South Loop) location was on the "coming soon" page of the Trader Joe's website.
If you're like us, you walk by and stalkerishly peek into the building hoping for some signs of life. Last we checked didn't look like much progress, but we will continue to stalk this building!
Someone dug a hole in the parking lot last week, then filled it in again.
ReplyDeleteI ask the people at the River North location every time I'm there. At first they said late Spring but the most recent I heard was Summer, around the same time as the store on Diversey. Hopefully it won't be pushed back any more. There was some heavy equipment working in the parking lot late last week.
ReplyDeleteMuch of the used restaurant equipment inside has been removed recently. More digging was going on this morning. But no sign of inexpensive wine as of yet.
ReplyDeleteThis can't open soon enough! I want to vomit every time I go into Jewel!
ReplyDeleteI heard (from the River North location) that it won't be open until late 2011 or even early 2012 :(
ReplyDeleteTo be expected since they have to build a parking garage. I wish that wasn't the case. We'd have it much sooner, and it wouldn't be as busy, since people can only buy what they can handle walking and wouldn't spend as much time in the store stocking up.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the hype about Trader Joe's - overpriced version of Dominicks.
ReplyDeleteI peaked inside the window today and saw people. However, if late 2011 is the predicted opening date, as mentioned above, my level of excitement goes from "Oh!!" to "Meh...".
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice that the Diversey store is NOT listed on the "coming soon"?
ReplyDeleteAnd it is not listed in the store listing.
Also, bogo, have you ever been to a Trader Joe's? While they aren't a full grocery store like a Dominicks, when you compare prices, Trader Joe is almost always way cheaper. And a lot of their "Trader Joe" branded items are actually name brand stuff repackaged for them. Like Stacy's Pita Chips.
I only go to Trader's for their amazing Turkey Jerky .. I'm not kidding.
ReplyDeletewas just at River North location and was told the SL location was on "Mega Hold" because of the damn underground parking they want to build.
