Do You Want a Chiasso at Roosevelt Collection?

A Blog can be a variety of things. Sometimes it's a news source, sometimes it's entertaining (at least we hope), and sometimes it's a lighting rod of opinions. Well today, we're going to turn it into an informal focus group.

We recently had a post Pondering Potential Retail at Roosevelt Collection. We had some great comments (thanks for that), but also had an interesting comment from the President of Chiasso:

I'm the owner of Chiasso and noticed your comments about CB2 and West Elm. If we open a store at the RC would you shop there?

Thanks.
Chris Segal

Chiasso
Personally we love this store! My family was in in town recently and we specifically went out of our way to go to the Chiasso on Clyborn on the way to dinner.

If you're not familiar with the store, it's a great store with all types of modern decor and furniture (here is their website). We just recently installed this sweet clock in our South Loop apartment.

So please answer this question, would you shop at Chiasso if they opened a store at Roosevelt Collection?

Chiasso would be amazing!!!

I love home decor stores -- and I especially love when a variety of them are readily accessible so that I can mix and match to get that perfect look. The North and Clybourn area has this luxury, and I would love to see a bunch of those stores in the Roosevelt Collection! I will be especially happy that nicer stores move in and not more discount paradises since we already have the essential ones down the road with BBB, World Market, and Marshalls.

Yes!

Definitely!! Never heard of it before actually. I love the stuff at Crate & Barrell but it's a bit out of my price range. Having a local place with better prices would make me a very happy South Looper.

Never heard of it, but this looks like a great alternative to C&B/CB2/West Elm etc. I would definitely shop there.

I certainly would shop there. I'd probably pop in and browse whenever I went to the movies.

I also hadn't heard of Chiasso until this post, but after checking out your website, I'll definitely make it there soon.

I drive up to Lincoln Park often to go to Chiasso - it is a great store with lots of "different and fun" items. I would LOVE if a Chiasso came to the South Loop!

If you're in Chicago and you have any sort of designer brain and you want to fill some of your space with affordable furniture/accessory pieces, you better know about Chiasso... You don't want your place to look like those uninspired interior south loop real estate pictures from MLS... Aim for apartmenttherapy quality and shop (some) at Chiasso!

<3 apartmenttherapy -- they'd definitely recommend Chiasso

Chiasso - I would also look at the 14th - 18th S. Michigan Block as well.

Yeah dude, I'm tired of getting my home furnishings at Target. If one of these opened in the RC I'm sure my wife would bankrupt us with all her shopping!

I would definitely shop there. Have already made the trek from the South Loop to the LP store various times.

Personally, I'm curious if Chris could provide some background as to what the hell is going on with the retail at Roosevelt Collection...we haven't publicly heard a peep from them about the retail.

PS - I don't like modern stuff, but i'm pretty sure this type of store would do well in RC or any other spot in the South Loop. I also liked the idea of Michigan between 14th and 18th!

Good store - great fit for the neighbourhood.

I think the reasonable pricepoints would work for people wandering around RC and impulse buying.

Yes please!

Wow, what a nice response! Sloopin' really has an active and articulate reader base.

Thank you for all of your nice comments about Chiasso. We'll have to start actively looking at this location.

As to what's happening at the Roosevelt Collection, I'm not sure myself. In fact, I had never heard of it until my real estate broker mentioned it last month. I guess the RC may start leasing space shortly and he thought it might be a good way for us to enter your terrific, near-south neighborhood.

Anyways, thanks again for all of your nice comments. And if you happen to stop by our store at 2112N. Clybourn, just mention your a "sloopin reader" and we'll give you 20% off.

Kindly,
Chris Segal

Chris -
my desk, rugs, dining room tables/chairs all come from Chiasso. I love the store.

It would be great to pop in after a movie and see the new stuff

Anyone else miss the warehouse sale Chiasso would have just a little north and west? I guess they moved it to the suburbs, but it was amazing.

yes, we would definitely shop there..south loopers are rich and want to spend their money in their own hood.

Anonymous said...

I live at the RC and would love to see this store here!

The answer is yes.

Yes, I live in the RC and would love ANY retail right now. Chiasso is a nice store, very familiar with others in the country. Come on and open!

I have never heard of this store before but after browsing the website I would love to have this type of store in SL

yes,
ask whole foods about middle to high end consumers in the area. whole foods is kicking themselves for building a store 2x as big. Before Lincoln Park opened up whole foods south loop was the most in Illinois despite its relatively small size.

Whole Foods has always been busy when I've been there, and that was even during the down economy. It seems things are picking up now. I've never seen so many people shopping Trader Joe's, and I can only figure that people have more money to spend now and aren't shopping with coupons and sales as much anymore.

What makes you think Whole Foods is kicking themselves?

Chris,

You have a great store and a nice staff. I went into the store on Clybourn yesterday for the first time and its a great place!

I would definitely enjoy Chiasso in the south loop.

I would shop there. I think Chiasso has a fun collection of home accessories. I prefer it to West Elm for sure.

Perhaps this comment is a little late, but as a new resident of the South Loop, I would be thrilled to have Chiasso so close. Please, please!
