I was walking on 9th between Wabash and State and noticed there is something going on in the only video store space. It was the video store next to the tracks that later closed down and became an apartment? Well they were painting the walls and it looked like they were making some additions in there to revamp the commercial space? Let me know if you found out anything!
We searched the usual places on the interweb but couldn't find much info on this place. Again, do any readers know about this?
(Hat Tip: RT!)
I'm praying it's a Christian church! This would help draw more people to the South Loop and increase home values!
ReplyDeleteI hope it is a Chipotle!
ReplyDeletewhy not combine the two? everyone will be happy.
ReplyDeleteChick-fil-a would be a good compromise for that.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if the first answer is meant to be sarcastic or not....
ReplyDeleteHow in the world is 9th street considered the south loop?
ReplyDeleteAnything South of Congress is considered the South Loop.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's a subway.
ReplyDeleteIf you're talking about the space that's sortof in back of the Halloween Store, it looks like it's either going to be a print shop or a store that sells printers. I work at We Are Halloween and they are setting up a lot of large-scale, professional-looking printers inside.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the person that said how is 9th st considered the south loop... um, what neighborhood would you call it, if not the south loop?
Anon 7:18: According to the city, congress to Roosevelt is the south loop. Further south of that is still officially the near south.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the first poster.. I really hope it's a church... Or a sex toy shop
ReplyDeleteI second sex toy shop! We already have too much Christian churches in South Loop.
ReplyDeleteNo I hope it's church with a Chipotle and a Trader Joes.
ReplyDeleteTo those arguing about neighborhood definitions: There is no authority on neighborhoods. You will never find an definitive map of them for any locality. There are legal entities called Wards, Districts, and Community Areas (e.g. Loop and Near South) that may attempt to mirror neighborhoods, but they are not the same.
ReplyDeleteAnyone, including me, you, the mayor, and a real estate agent, may have an opinion about a neighborhood, but none of those people are the arbiters of one's boundaries.
Neighborhoods tend to have a certain social as well as architectural cohesion. These are dynamic factors that cause a neighborhood's boundaries to shift constantly. To define a suspected neighborhood one would probably be best served visiting it, analyzing its demographics, and asking its residents to name it.
Finally, if you disagree with the area south of Roosevelt being referred to as the South Loop neighborhood, I question why you visit a blog devoted to the area defined using the most liberal accepted definition of that neighborhood.
According to a friend you lives in a building next to that location, it's supposed to be a copy shop.
ReplyDeleteHow about we use this blog for actual information and not these stupid/repetitive inside jokes. We get it.. it was funny to make a joke about Subway and Trader Joe's about five months ago. But come on.... Post something with meaning and get off this really corny comical soap box. I actually am curious as to what is going to go in on 9th.
ReplyDeleteOh BTW- The sex toy shop comment was actually original and funny. Kudos to that blogger.
Maybe it can be a Trader Joe's but instead of hawaiian shirts they where black shirts with a priest collar. And at check out they hand you a burrito and blessing.
ReplyDeleteA copy shop? That has to be a front for something. Don't they know print is dead! Even the Kinko's closed.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the comment on posting stupid/repetitive inside jokes. That's what the "rants & raves" section of craigslists or comment boxes on Trib. articles is for. This is OUR neighborhood. Our discussions, comments, suggestions, and thoughts should have some substance in trying to make this a neighborhood we enjoy living in.
ReplyDeleteThe Kinko's closed due to the Buddy Guy's move/expansion . . . there's still plenty of demand for print services.
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is, they better have a Groupon promotion...and soon.
ReplyDeleteGee whiz, hope that sex shop has free wifi!
ReplyDeleteSadly...it's a copy and print shop. Not nearly as exciting as we would have all hoped. It's independent though which is nice.
