Best of luck on the project and glad to hear they will be call the Sloop home!Read your blog regularly and wanted to give you the heads up on a project I'm working on. In the coming months I'll be opening a record store somewhere in the south loop. The store is going to be focusing on vinyl releases and contain an art gallery/community space.
We're also partnering with chicago-based hip-hop website rubyhornet.com for events and releases (though the store won't be focusing on specific genre). The project is still in its initial stages but as I'm sure you like to keep tabs on these ideas I though I'd drop you a line. You can find us here: http://www.hplusrecords.com/ on facebook and on twitter: @hplus_records.
Keep an eye out as we'll be doing vinyl give-aways and have future announcements quick about financing and exactly where the store will be located.

YES ! This is exactly the type of store we need ! Two areas that may work for you: Wabash or State (South of Roosevelt)-- to take advantage of students or S. Michigan Ave (just south of Cermak) -- but only if you make it a vinyl store + art gallery/event venue. There are a lot of artist on S. Michigan and younger crowds that come to Reggies on State -- this could really be a jump start store/venue for the area. GOOD LUCK !
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony, we've got a couple of hurdles to jump yet but we're definitely targeting those areas. Hope to see you in the store soon.
ReplyDeleteYou should open in Printers Row! Tons of retail space and so close to the college kids who eat up Vinyl!
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
You have two recording studios south of Cermak on S. Michigan that may have interest in sampling records & I think if you can get a liquor license you may have something original.
ReplyDeleteyou realize your logo is not H+, but neutral Hydrogen, right? you have an extra electron in there now...
ReplyDeletePrinters Row is NOT the Sloop. Please don't open there. Also, south of Cermak on michigan ave is VERY SHADY!
ReplyDeleteYour logo is He+. Where has science literacy gone?
ReplyDelete"Dearborn Station at the end of Printers row, in the South Loop Printing House District, is the oldest train station still standing in Chicago; it has been converted to retail and office space. Most of the area south of Congress Parkway and east of the Chicago River, excepting Printer's Row, is referred to as the South Loop. The southern boundary of the neighborhood is under debate. While the southern boundary for the community area is Roosevelt Road, the term "South Loop" is often used to describe an area that extends as far south as 18th Street or Cermak Road. Numerous shops south of Roosevelt Road with "South Loop" in their name hint that this more generous definition may be gaining recognition."

Ha, I was hoping nobody would put together that H+ shouldn't have that electron. still went with the logo because I liked it, maybe not chemically accurate, but I'll invoke artistic license.
ReplyDeletePrinter's Row is the heart of the Sloop . . . deal with it!
ReplyDeleteIf Printers Row is the "heart of the Sloop," then 18th street, where this new pet hospital (another one!) is not in the sloop and therefore this article should be erased. As should any posts about McCormick Place, ickes, Reggies, Quatro, etc.
ReplyDeletePrinters Row is a separate and distict neighborhood . . . deal with it!
curious why people do not want to include Printers Row in the South Loop. What did Printers Row do to you?
ReplyDeleteIt is South of Congress and East of the River. Even if it is a discint neighborhood, it's still within the boundries.
Printers Row doesn't want to be associated with the label of 'South Loop'. And Dearborn Park doesn't either. They were both viable neighborhoods long before the trend setting developers moved in with their bland buildings to areas south of Roosevelt Road.
ReplyDeletePlease do open in Printers Row, we'd love to have you.
Really? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't for Printer's Row and the Dearborn developments, the "South Loop" that currently exists would be a mere shadow of itself.
If not the heart (and soul) of the South Loop, Printer's Row is the brain/nerve center.
I'd patronize a record shop anywhere in this area.
