Little known trivia. This building was the opening scene location (along with the IC tracks to McCormick Place) for the movie "Primal Fear" (1996) with Richard Gere & Edward Norton.
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2299855641/ If go to the movie trailer you can see it (after about 28 seconds). It appeared that the Movie producers took the main Mansion for the current US Soccer Federation building and did some computer graphics or superimposed a section from another City of Chicago building in the film to make it look even bigger. If you pause at 33 seconds, the view you can see is actually looking east at the 18th & Prairie intersection, with the US Soccer Federation / Kimball Mansion on the right side. Everything in the middle and left side of that show is not real.
Many other movie's in that area of the near south side including Gene Hackman in the "The Package", who plays an Army major trying to stop a plot to kill Russian Govt visitors to Chicago. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098051/ Several scenes in, around, and the basement of existing Mansion at 218? East Cullerton...
