Celebrating its seventh year, the Bash on Wabash goes down over Labor Day weekend (Saturday Sept 4 and Sunday Sept 5) on Wabash between 13th and 14th streets, and this year’s line-up leans heavily on some of the city’s best deejays to provide a hipper-than-hip danceworthy soundtrack to complement the rock.
Amidst a barrage of corn-themed activities the dexterous duo Flosstradamus, mash-up kings Hood Internet, and reigning champs of local electro Midnight Conspiracy join hotly-tipped Florida emcee Dominique Young Unique and live electro trio Gemini Club for performances, and that’s just on Saturday.
Some of the other neighborhood fests have been attracting some relatively big names shows for these relatively low key parties, so it's good to see our neighborhood trying to step up its game. Although i'm not sure how DJ Saturday will go, it should be interesting to witness.
Here is Flosstradamus for those of you who are interested:
Thanks for the publicity Sloopin!
ReplyDeleteWe will correct our website to say that the DJ's will be on our 2nd stage. Yes, that's right... we have grown enough to have 2 stages! The rest of the band lineup should be announced soon so please stay tuned. We hope to have something for everyone.
I really hope this Fest takes off. As we all know, this is a great hood with so much potential. However, just like the neighborhood's entertainment/dining options, this Fest falls WAY short of just about every other neighborhood festival in the city. The two years that I have gone have been extremely disappointing with very low turnout. Similar Fests all over the city are usually jammed. Further, isn't is odd that this Fest is left off of almost every list of Chicago Neighborhood Festivals?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever thought of combining this Fest with the annual Toast of The South Loop that PDNA puts on? Similar to the Taste of Randolph Street? IMO, it would be far more successful if restaurants in the actually participated in the Bash.
As a fan of independent hip-hop and someone who has heard of Flosstradamus but not had the opportunity to see them, this sounds like fun. It's certainly good to see that they're not just going with the same cover bands that you see at almost every street fest.
