Dude was working, allegedly, right out of one of the biggest condo buildings in the S Loop... and with tons of kids in the building. Just makes me sick.

ReplyDeleteAs overbuilt as the real estate market is in general--and particularly the South Loop, since development here continued even when development stalled in other neighborhoods--means that lots of buildings are going to be rental buildings, and that condo owners unable to stay in Chicago will increasingly rent units out. That, coupled with the relatively central location of the South Loop, means that this will probably continue to happen for quite some time.

Property management are really the eyes & ears of rental buildings. They should be training their staff to understand when there are too many visitors to a paticular apartment.

ReplyDeleteYeah... before anyone gets bent out of shape, I think it's safe to assume that "KNEW" = suspected in this case.
ReplyDeleteYeah, making a formal complaint to your building management and/or condo association is the least thing least you should do in a case like this.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd not hesitate to call the police . . . better safe than sorry. Most buildings have security cameras/tapes that can be reviewed BTW.

Actually, we don't need to hear from FGFM, Carl, Lance, et al. to know what their take on this issue is. That's because anytime anyone voices concern and/or anger over crime, criminals, drugs, thugs, gangs, etc., they mock all of us concerned citizens as 'uptight caucasian douchebags,' and tell us, essentially, 'this is the city' and if you can't deal with crime and gangs then move to the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteI think the majority of Sloop residents agree that "just because" this is the city, that does not mean that we should tolerate crimal activity and "expect" gang-bangers and drug dealers to live as our neighbors. No, sir. That attitude may fly in Englewood, Bronzeville, and all the other "communities" that employ the "don't snitch" mantra when it comes to crime, but NOT HERE!
For the record, I would have had no reservation in calling the law and then alerting my building manager and or condo assoc. in a case like this.
ReplyDeleteSince we are the subject of crime, I just want to send a reminder to call 311 and report ANY GRAFFITI you see in the South Loop. They will get it cleaned within 48 hours. It's much more rare to see in anywhere in the South Loop vs Wicker Park-ish areas, but please continue to stay on top of it.
