It looks like "Jimmy Greens Tavern" just applied for a liquor license at 825 S. State Street according to Everyblock. I think that's the same retail complex with X Sport & Lou Malnatis (however it could be in the complex where LA Boxing just went in, not sure).
Anyway, if you walk by the building you can see the skeleton of the bar and some progress being made. Good to potentially have another local option for drinks (and presumably food) in the hood.

Awesome, Guerrilla Gay Bar is running out of new bars to take over, so this is very welcome!
Looks like the X Sport & Lou Malnati's block.
I'm all for new businesses down here but another faux Irish bar?
Yawn.

Yeah, it doesn't really move me, there are already plenty of burger 'n' beer joints.
The best thing about new options opening is that is makes the existing establishments "step up" their game. The food and service at both O'Malley's and Weather Mark has been declining lately, if this new spot is on the ball with both, it can do great and steal a lot of business from the current sub-par options.
I agree with the last post, Weather Mark and O'malleys have become very poor options. O'malleys use to have some authentic Irish food bangers and mash and etc. Now it is traditional american bar food. What happened? Everyone's criticism of the South Loop is the "just add water" feel of it. I diagree but when you look at the O'malleys of the neighborhood its hard to argue.
looks like it's actually gonna be more of a sports bar according to jeffrey terrana

If they open up by St. Paddy Day, we might be meeting there instead of the South Loop Club...
I'll give it a try, but for me it's Villain's all the way!
Is Villain's still open?
Villain's is still open - I was there a week ago for their half-price burgers on Monday. The website seemed under construction lately, but it looks like they've updated it finally.
They were closed around New Year's weekend-owners were out of town or something according to our waitress.
It seems that they've been open for a longer time than Butcher's Dog ever was.
Villian's and Reggie's have the best bar food in the Sloop.
