We stumbled upon
a fun interactive graph on the New York Times website today which breaks down rental patterns via Netflix in various cities and zip codes. As you can see above The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was the #1 movie in our zip code in 2009. This was consistent for Chicago in aggregate.
You can see how our neighborhood (60605) compares to the countries top ten below:
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
- Changeling
- Slumdog Millionaire
- Seven Pounds
- Gran Torino
- Twilight
- Doubt
- Body of Lies
- Valkyrie
- Burn After Reading

For most cities it's basically the 2009 Oscar list. Kinda shows how boring we all are.
A few years ago wasn't there some articles stating the Sloop was a place to retire? That list of movies is certainly more in line with what the older crowd would like.
Add "Brothers at War" to your Netflix wish-list; coming out next week.
We went tonight to a free showing of the "Brothers at War" documentary promoted by the Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance at the Calumet Ave Armory. What a great and thoughtful film...and anther great community event. About 200 people including many of the current serviceman and women joined by South Loop residents, etc. who were treated to food, beverages, snacks, and a free showing, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Jake Rademacher. Great atmosphere for a showing. (the movie is also produced by Gary Sinise)
If you have not seen it, I highly recommend getting the DVD at http://www.brothersatwarmovie.com
Netflix apparently doesn't offer adult titles.
This list is racist! Uptight caucasian douchebags have horrible taste in movies!
Anonymous 011010 2:02 PM, Slumdog Millionaire is number 2 on the list and I don't think there were any white guys in that movie.
^ Slumdog was number 3.
Horrible Taste? This is for NETFLIX, not Redbox. If they did a check for which movies were being rented from the machine at the Jewel, I am sure you would get your TYLER PERRY movies on the list.
I invite everyone to avoid anything related to New York Newspapers. The New York Times has been trying to undermine our local rags for years and I have voiced my objection about supporting them. Please refrain from any reference to the NYT and their website... it blasphemous!
