Just wanted to say congrats to Epic Burger for their expansion into Lincoln Park. The Original South Loop Epic Burger, which opened its first restaurant in our neighborhood in May of 2008, is located at 517 S. State. For more info about the restaurant and its expansion check out this link.
Thanks for choosing our neighborhood first and good luck with the expansion!

I assume this is a good indication of how well the Sloop location does. I love this place!
ReplyDeleteI echo the congrats to Epic Burger. I hope this means more people will be exposed to what is the most delicious burger I have ever had. They'll be #1 in Chicago (http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/September-2009/The-Best-Burgers-in-Chicago/) before long!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Epic Burger. I think the place has got a great look and feel inside, but I feel like the burgers there are somewhat lacking, shy of anything being truly "epic". If I had to actually pick one south loop burger joint to fulfill my cravings, I'd have to go with SRO on Dearborn.
ReplyDeleteThe hook for me is that Epic is more "green" and serves a less processed product than the major fast food chains.
ReplyDeleteSRO offers a very good quality menu as well. Their turkey burgers are second only to their turkey chili.
I'm an SRO fan as well, but I am more partial to the SRO Chicken sandwich despite its likely unhealthiness (Mmmm cheese AND bacon AND mayo).
ReplyDeleteIf Epic Burger still hasn't wowed you, try the Epic or Junior burger with havarti horseradish cheese, grilled onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and Epic sauce. It is an an amazing combination of flavors, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I will cede to SRO, aside from having a better chicken sandwich, is that their surly service just seems more fitting than that of the students working at Epic burger.
I'm not going to say Epic is the best burger in the city. It may not even be in the top 10. But it is a fairly good burger (especially with the blue cheese)and may be the best in the Sloop. And one can not discount the trendy, hipster sort of vibe the place has. Happy to see that things are working out for them.
ReplyDeleteStill haven't had a burger from Epic because that place has THE BEST BLT I have ever eaten in my life. Try it.
ReplyDeleteI will say, they need to work on the consistency with their fries though. SRO has some tasty sweet potato fries.

ReplyDeleteOn the topic of fries, one time I was at Epic, the owner mentioned that they use a special variety (forgot what kind) of potatoes for their fries, but were considering switching to russet since it would be cheaper and he wasn't sure if people appreciated their more refined choice.
ReplyDeleteWhile I probably favor SRO's fries as well, I'm not really that picky. An inconsistency that I don't mind is that depending on who's working, you either get a reasonable amount of fries or a ridiculous mountain of fries. Since the latter is the norm more often than not, my co-workers and I have started sharing fries when we go there.
